RV App — Wellbeing Addendum
Crisis-Support & Welfare Follow-up Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
This addendum covers the RV app's wellbeing/crisis-support feature only: a resource list plus a one-tap crisis-call option, available to logged-in members (“Option A”, confirmed 2 August 2026).
It does not cover event health/suitability screening, which is governed by our Health Information Privacy Policy. This is a lower-sensitivity data flow — a record that a tap occurred, not a health questionnaire — handled with strict privacy controls given the context it is used in.
2. What This Feature Is — and Isn't
This is a next-day follow-up feature, not a monitored, real-time crisis response. Tapping the button does not connect you to SSAANZ in the moment, and no one at SSAANZ is notified immediately.
If you are in immediate danger, call 111 immediately.
For support right now, you can also call or text:
- NZDF4U Wellbeing Support:
0800 693 348(0800 NZDF 4U) — for veterans and whānau. - 1737, Need to Talk?: Call or text
1737, free, available 24/7.
3. What We Collect, and Why
When you tap the crisis-call option, the app privately records three things: that a tap occurred, which member tapped it, and the date/time. It does not record why you tapped it, the content of any call you make, or any health information.
This minimal record exists for one purpose: enabling a private, next-day welfare check-in from SSAANZ's named welfare contact. It is not a health record and is not linked to your event registration or health/suitability data.
4. Who Can See It
Tap records, and the alert generated by a tap, are seen only by SSAANZ's named welfare contact, Candice Benfell (welfare.alert@ssaanz.co.nz) — not the National Coordinator, event Team Leaders, or event volunteers who have access to event health data under the Health Information Privacy Policy. This is a narrower access list than event health information, reflecting the personal nature of this data.
5. Retention and Deletion
- The alert email sent to
welfare.alert@ssaanz.co.nzis deleted within 24 hours of being sent. - The underlying tap record itself on RV's database is deleted 30 days after the tap, or immediately once the welfare contact completes the follow-up — whichever happens first.
6. What We Don't Do With It
- We don't use it for marketing, fundraising, or membership communications.
- We don't share it with event teams, sponsors, or funders.
- We don't link it to your event health/suitability records.
- We don't record the content of any call you make, or your reason for tapping.
7. Review
This policy is reviewed alongside SSAANZ's Health Information Privacy Policy annually, or sooner if this feature changes materially.
